ANC Chief Whip refuses to apologize for using F*** *** during a Tshwane Metro Council meeting

MEDIA RELEASE
29 April 2010

ANC Chief Whip refuses to apologize for using F*** *** during a Tshwane Metro Council meeting

The ACDP is surprised to see that there are two sets of rules in Council – one for the ANC and one for all the other parties.
During the Council Meeting of 29 April 2010 the ANC Chief Whip, Terence Mashigo used F*** *** when he lost his cool. The ACDP Councillor, Ms Sparg asked the chief Whip to apologise for using foul language but the Chief Whip refused, stating that he used Tsotsi language. Tsotsi language is a language that is not associated with business and not used in boardrooms. The Freedom Front walked out of the meeting in support of the ACDP on this issue.

Has this Council now lowered itself to Tsotsie style instead of being a high-level business meeting?
It is regrettable that Councillor Mashigo refused to apologize and that the standard of acceptable levels of communication used in our Council meetings has been allowed to deteriorate to such an extend?

We cannot allow behavioral standards to be lowered to suit the conduct of certain "key" ANC members.
